British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and PEI Selects Candidates

British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and PEI Selects Candidates

Recently, candidates have been invited by five Canadian provinces to apply for permanent residence through their provincial immigration programs. The task of immigration is a joint effort between provincial and federal governments. When a province puts forth a candidate via their Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), it enhances the candidate’s application for permanent resident status. This holds particularly true for Express Entry candidates, who are granted an automatic addition of 600 extra Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points upon receiving nomination from a province.

Unlike the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Quebec and Nunavut follow different approaches. Quebec holds a distinctive agreement with the federal government, granting it complete independence in selecting its economic immigration programs.

Recent Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) Draws | Updates & Statistics

British Columbia’s selection details

British Columbia conducted four focused draws for candidates within the Skilled Worker and International Graduate Streams of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), which also included Express Entry candidates, on August 15. The most extensive draw saw the invitation of 107 candidates engaged in tech occupations, with a minimum Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) score of 88. The remaining three draw outcomes were as outlined below:

  • 19 candidates within healthcare occupations,
  • 27 individuals in early childhood education roles, and
  • Less than five candidates in other specified priority occupations.

For all the draws, candidates were required to have a minimum score of 60.

Ontario’s selection details

In the last week, Ontario issued invitations to a total of 5,450 candidates across four distinct streams for provincial immigration. In three separate draws held on August 15, Ontario invited 853 international students who held job offers in fields like technology, healthcare, and skilled trades. These candidates had a minimum score of 61.

The Foreign Worker stream saw 375 candidates receiving invitations with job offers in skilled trades, accompanied by a minimum score of 30. An additional 1,131 skilled candidates with job offer in health and technology sectors were invited, having scores of 46. A third draw for the Employer Job Offer stream targeted 256 skilled candidates with job offers in in-demand skills, having scores of 23 or more. These candidates were employed in specific in-demand occupations, such as agriculture and construction.

On August 17, Ontario disclosed that it had invited 2,835 candidates via the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream, over the course of the week. These candidates possessed experience in technology and health-related professions and held scores of 473 or higher.

Saskatchewan’s selection details

Saskatchewan released Expressions of Interest (EOIs) on August 16 for the first instance following June 8. The province conducted draws for candidates in both its Express Entry and Occupations-In-Demand streams. However, what makes this instance unique is that the draws were divided into six separate rounds based on the candidate’s country of residence and occupation. The aim of each draw was to aid recruitment efforts in connecting eligible candidates with employment opportunities in the labour market.

Within its Express Entry stream, Saskatchewan issued invitations to 23 candidates residing in Ireland, 224 candidates residing in India, and 98 candidates residing in Poland, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Similarly, under the Occupations in Demand stream, Saskatchewan invited 12 candidates living in Ireland, 207 candidates in India, and 78 candidates from Poland, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. For all the draws, candidates were required to hold a minimum score of 60 to receive invitations.

Quebec’s selection details

On August 10, Quebec disclosed the outcomes of its most recent invitation round. The Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration welcomed a total of 1,384 candidates to apply for permanent selection.

Candidates were mandated to possess a minimum score of 591, along with an oral proficiency level of 7 or higher in French, as per the Échelle Québécoise des Niveaux de compétence en français des personnes immigrantes adultes. Additionally, invitations were issued to candidates who held valid job offers situated outside the boundaries of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal.

It is crucial to note that being invited to apply for permanent selection differs from obtaining permanent resident status through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Candidates aspiring for Canadian permanent residence status must still submit a separate application to IRCC.

Prince Edward Island’s (PEI’s) selection details

On August 17, Prince Edward Island (PEI) issued invitations to a total of 142 candidates through two distinct streams of the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

In the Labour and Express Entry stream, the province invited 138 candidates. These invitations were directed towards individuals who were employed by a PEI employer, and they needed to have a minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) score of 50. Notably, within the past year, more than 97% of all PEI PNP invitations have been allocated to candidates within the Labour and Express Entry categories.

Furthermore, PEI also issued four invitations to candidates applying under the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur category. These candidates were required to meet the minimum point threshold of 102.
