The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English language proficiency examination that has global recognition. When migrating to Canada, a good IELTS score can have huge impact on the application processing. IELTS has 4 modules – ListeningReadingWriting, and Speaking. Over 8,000 educational institutions, business organizations, and governments throughout the world, recognize the IELTS test, making it one of the most reliable – as well as easily accessible – ways of evaluating one’s English language proficiency.

It may so happen that you may not get the desired scores in the very first attempt.  If this happens, then, rather than giving up, remember that you have several choices at your disposal. You can easily overcome this obstacle and raise the probability of securing a better score. We will discuss some of the options and approaches in this article.

Realization is the first step towards improvement

If you fail to secure the intended result, first, keep in mind that obstacles are normal part of the learning process. And, instead of allowing despair to take hold, take the necessary steps to move one step closer to your goal of securing permanent residence status in Canada.

Be aware of your weaknesses: which section did you perform well in? Did you perform poorly in any one, two, three, or all four sections? You may determine which sections need extra practice and preparation by going over each one, again. Examine every area and identify the ones you found most challenging. By identifying your areas of weakness, you may concentrate your preparation efforts there.

Set a study plan: make a well-organized study schedule that incorporates focused practice in the areas you need to grow better at. Every skill, such as speakingwritinglistening, and reading, should have a designated time slot. Try to simulate a real exam situation when you practice.

Resume your training: using English as often as you can is the best approach to get better at it. Watch and listen to English-language television and music, read English literature, and practice communicating with friends as well as colleagues who can communicate with you in English. Another option is to create a daily notebook in which you record all of your writings in English. You will improve your English with frequent application of this technique.

Enrol for another IELTS test: retake the test by registering and paying the required cost once you feel sufficiently prepared. There is good news that now, IELTS allow you to take a retest module-wise. This is called ‘IELTS One Skill Retake’ test.
